OTS247 Mock Draft

Jesus Martinez | Main Columnist

Welcome to the first edition of the OTS247 Mock Draft, and possibly our last before the draft. We have some pretty predictable picks, some shockers, and an interesting Day 1 if you ask me. No hypothetical trades here. Chris picked for NFC teams, while Jesus chose AFC teams. Without further ado, here is the our mock. The Browns are on the clock..

1. Cleveland Browns: DE Myles Garrett
  • Myles Garrett is by far the best player in this draft. He is a game changer and there is no way the Browns could pass up on him. Otherwise, the QB they take will be knocked out of the game by Garrett, when they face each other.

2. San Francisco 49ers: DE- Solomon Thomas
  • Solomon Thomas ia disruptor, and a perfect fit for the Niners. He pushes lineman back and gets into the backfield very often. For a rebuilding Niners team, he is the right piece to build around.

3. Chicago Bears:  QB Mitch Trubisky
  • Like for any QB, there are questions surrounding Trubisky. But, there is no consensus top QB in this year’s draft, making Trubisky the most likeliest to be selected first. Trubisky has great accuracy and sense of awareness inside the pocket. The best part about this pick, is that if he is not ready in week 1, the Bears have Mike Glennon.

4. Jacksonville Jaguars: RB Leonard Fournette
  • The Jaguars never got what they expected out of TJ Yeldon. There is no doubt that the Jaguars should go with offense here, since their defense is stacked with high draft picks and free agent signings.  Why not get the best running back in the draft? Who happens to be a great blocker and pass catcher as well.

5. Tennessee Titans (via LA Rams): S Jamal Adams
  • The Titans sit comfortable in the draft, as they have two picks in the top 20. Who would have thought after trading the #1 overall pick last year would result them in such a great shape? Just about everyone, but that isn’t the point. The Titans have two key picks they can use to build their defense around. If they need solid contributors, look no further than Jamal Adams. Seeing him fall to 5 is possible, and if the Titans are on the clock and have the chance to snag them, by all means they will.

6. New York Jets: S Malik Hooker
  • The New York Jets needed a huge defensive makeover this offseason. More specifically in the secondary. Malik Hooker will be a great addition to this new-look Jets secondary. From day 1, he’ll be the best player on it, a title he could handle.

7. Los Angeles Chargers: DL Jonathan Allen
  • Joey Bosa and Jonathan Allen on the same team? Watch out offensive lineman everywhere! Pairing Bosa with Allen would be an amazing dream for the Chargers, who are now in LA. Together, they could wreak havoc.

8 Carolina Panthers: DE Derek Barnett
  • Losing Norman wasn’t the only reason the Panthers defense struggled so badly in 2016. Adding an explosive DE like Barnett would help this defense which already consists of a nice linebacker core and an improving- young secondary.

9. Cincinnati Bengals: LB Reuben Foster
  • We’ve seen situations before where the Bengals have taken chances on players with red flags, and it should be no different here. Although Foster has had an abysmal road leading to the draft, it seems he is a stout linebacker who could get the job done. He is possibly viewed as the second best defensive player behind Garrett, and it would be surprising to see him fall out of the top 10.

10. Buffalo Bills: WR Mike Williams
  • Mike Williams is a tremendous WR, with solid hands and nice leaping ability. If the Bills get a healthy Watkins, and Williams, they could form a very nice duo. The two could complement each other pretty well.

11. New Orleans Saints: CB Gareon Conley
  • It could be one interesting day for the Buckeyes if three of their DB’s get drafted within the first round. IN THE SAME DRAFT. I’m willing to bet Urban will definitely use this in recruiting. That being said, the second OSU player sees himself drafted, as Conley gets selected to New Orleans. After rising his stock at the combine, he only cemented his status as a first round corner, as his ball skills and playmaking ability will propel him just outside the top 10.

12. Cleveland Browns: QB Deshaun Watson
  • Deshaun Watson has the potential to be an elite QB in the NFL. Some of his problems come in the redzone and going to his 2nd and 3rd reads. He’ll need to work on that and maybe a young, nowhere near contending Brown teams could be the right fit for the national champion.

13. Arizona Cardinals: QB Patrick Mahomes
  • The Cardinals run a spread offense and love going for the deep ball. Patrick Mahomes likes doing the same. #PerfectFit.

14. Philadelphia Eagles: RB Christian McCaffrey
  • The Eagles need a bell-cow running back. Enough of using 4 different runnings back for different situations. McCaffrey could do it all and would form a nice backfield with Carson Wentz. The Eagles did sign Alshon Jeffrey and Torrey Smith, but McCaffrey would give Wentz another option to throw to.

15. Indianapolis Colts: OT Cam Robinson
  • The Colts have a pressing need at offensive line, and the woes have to stop. Andrew Luck is forced to play through countless injuries, which is really not good for him. Cameron Robinson would be an immediate impact for the Colts, and see themselves solidify their Tackle and Center spots for the next few years, at the very least. Robinson does have some off field issues, but he’s a logical fit here.

16. Baltimore Ravens: WR John Ross
  • After the Ravens witnessed Steve Smith retire once again, they have no sort of WR1 who can help out. Joe Flacco has no weapons right now, and it makes more sense to get him than anything else. Need a reason why? 4.22. That’s why.

17. Washington  Redskins: DL Caleb Brantley
  • We don’t see them taking a QB or a defensive back, we see them make a logical selection, contrary to other reports.
18. Tennessee Titans: TE David Njoku
  • We have the Titans nabbing a stud safety earlier in this draft, so it is only right they go offense here. Delanie Walker is a terrific tight end for them, but he isn’t getting any younger. Adding Njoku would give them an uber-athletic TE who can stretch the field and make things happen after the catch.
19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: RB Dalvin Cook
  • The Bucs signed Doug Martin to a long-term deal last winter. That did not work out in year 1 and they might be better off moving on from the muscle hamster. Dalvin Cook has blazing speed and is a great pass catcher. Also, seeing an FSU backfield would be pretty cool.
20. Denver Broncos: TE OJ Howard
  • This might be the best fit up to this point. OJ Howard would have Denver fans salivating. The Broncos have not been able to fill the void left by Julius Thomas. Howard would be the starter from day 1 and his receiving ability and blocking would providing huge aid to their young QBs.

21 Detroit Lions: LB Jarrad Davis
  • A really good linebacker from Florida can go in and help a depleted linebacking core, than needs help all around. Need I say more?

22. Miami Dolphins: DT Malik Mcdowell
  • McDowell found himself in a worst case scenario this season, as not only the team struggled, but he did too. After a Cotton Bowl exit a few years ago, Michigan State looked to bounce back. Only problem was they went 3-9. McDowell was still effective this year, but injuries hampered what true performance we could’ve seen from him. The talent is there, with a explosive first step and a great motor. Whether a team could buy his upside in round 1 is the question. The Dolphins answer, taking him with their pick.

23.  New York Giants: OT Ryan Ramczyk
  • Ereck Flowers is clearly not the LT of the future in East Rutherford. Now going through the growing pains of another rookie LT might not be what the Giants would like to do, but it may be what they HAVE to do. Ramczyk with time, could become the left tackle of the future and if he does, he may be the final piece to a potential Super Bowl run.

24. Las Vegas Raiders: CB Marlon Humphrey
-It wouldn’t be shocking to see the RS Sophomore fall outside the top 20, amid all the hype from other prospects. If that is the case, then draft him now. The Raiders have a need at corner, and Humphrey will help them, becoming an immediate impact player. In the stacked DB class, the Raiders were able to get a good one late in the first round, and he will help the time to become a Super Bowl threat.

25. Houston Texans: CB Marshon Lattimore
  • The third Ohio State DB of the trio gets selected 25th overall. Lattimore has all the intangibles to be a force in the league, but injuries have not helped that claim.Only one year of playing time will not help him out, as most of his game tape came in 2016. Nevertheless, take him when you can, you are getting a good one.

26.  Seattle Seahawks: OT Garrett Boles
  • An effective Utah lineman who has helped players such as Devontae Booker and Joe Williams break out, he can help an atrocious Seahawks line. Thomas Rawls can be good, we’ve seen his performance before. Bolles would bolster the line, and give it the run block it needed. Him and Germain Ifedi will be two key cogs the Hawks lean towards in the coming years.

27. Kansas City Chiefs: RB Alvin Kamara
  • Kamara is flying under the radar, but he is a stud.  Kamara posses big play ability and reliable hands. He can run in between the tackles and and make men miss in open space. The Chiefs do have Spencer Ware but his lack of ball security could lead to the Chiefs taking Kamara. This may ultimately be a “ Best Player Available” situation.

28. Dallas Cowboys: S Jabrill Peppers
  • The Cowboys absolutely need to invest in the defense in this draft. Why not grab one of the biggest names in this years draft? Peppers versatility could serve the Cowboys many needs. That Jerry Jones guy loves the big name guys, don’t ya think?

29. Green Bay Packers: CB Quincy Wilson
  • A playmaking ballhawk of a corner who can get you a pick when needed. A very, VERY underrated corner. He, as do many others, have a case for CB1 in the draft. The Packers are wise to address the corner need, and they take one here.

30. Pittsburgh Steelers: LB Zach Cunningham
  • Steelers need a replacement for James Harrison when he retires. Could Cunningham be the successor? I think so.

31. Atlanta Falcons: DE Taco Charlton
  • The Falcons defense performed surprisingly well in the playoffs, until the last quarter and a half of Super Bowl 51. Adding Taco Charlton to a defense that includes Deion Jones, Brady Jerrett and Vic Beasley would be huge. Charlton lacks consistency but when he is able to get to the backfield, LOOKOUT!

32. New Orleans Saints: OG Forrest Lamp

  • To get protection for Drew Brees and the aerial passing attack, they need to select an Offensive Lineman. Forrest Lamp is a top lineman who can help that.
